Bit By A Viper – Poisonious Results

Last night when I came home Spencer and Eli was watching clips about snakes.  Eli hates snakes.  As McKenzie and I watched the snake eat baby squirrels, we expressed how disgusting it was.  Animals, reptiles, insects, and humans share more than we realize.

We all try to survive in this world, share this world and learn to live daily.  Life, funny thing isn’t it? The difference between us and the other creations of this world is we have emotions and we can think and reason.  We have this wonderful ability to be so different and unique but yet so quick to turn on our own kind instead of protect and nurture as other species do.  Today, I write about the effects of the Viper.  Whether you realize it or not we all have been bit by poisonous snakes.  What is the remedy or quick action we can take before the poison sets in and leaves a scar for life?

Words and actions from people can be very poisonous and the effects from the venom can be quite disastrous.  When you look at the general symptoms of a snakebite, you will notice several things.  First of all lets compare the physical to the spiritual after being bit by a snake (spiritually speaking = a lie from the enemy of our soul).

The Central Nervous System is affected.  There is dizziness, increased thirst and headache in the physical sense.  From the Spiritual side point being dizzy means having no sense of balance with the potential to fall.  In other words, life will be going in circles without any relief from mind battles with no clear thoughts only nauseated worry.  An increased thirst is from the lack of the Holy Spirit’s guidance and leading, comfort and the ability to receive teaching.   A spiritual headache is comes from refusing guidance of authority with prideful selfish thinking.

In the Systemic, there is fever and severe pain.  Spiritual fever is the result of a wake up call to an infection that is foreign to your soul as a born again believer, resulting in unresolved pain and lack of thankfulness. High temperatures reach potential dangers of damaging the ability to think, act and reason.  A spiritual fever demands hitting the rewind button from the past, dwelling on the past, or living in the past.  Because of lack of prayer and lack of faith the spirit of fear sets in…. resulting in spiritual sickness.

Notice in the picture how vision is affected with blurriness.  When we look into the spiritual there will be no clear vision or direction to go.  Panic with a sense of urgency causes one to run for help usually in the wrong direction as he or she experiences pain, panic and fear.  Many times people run instead of allowing or receiving help from the ones who are capable of helping.

The condition of the heart in the physical or spiritual is not as noticeable to the natural eye.   Rapid pulse, blood pressure and shock usually comes upon the initial bite yet it continues to be experienced after the bite. Most of the time when we get bit spiritually, these things also play out in our body through stress resulting in fatigue, weight gain or loss, no energy, addictions and other sought out pleasures to escape this world.

The Muscular system is affected with convulsions, loss of coordination and weakness.  Spiritual convulsion is throwing your body into a tantrum of anger, bitterness and an unforgiving attitude. It is acting out through actions everyone will see and notice.   The loss of coordination is making wrong decisions during this time and weakness is just that, spiritually weak.

The Gastric and Intestinal system is affected with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  Spiritual sickness results in regurgitation and dispelling waste on everyone around through contact which stinks up the entire area.  Everyone is affected by this not just the bitten. It is seemingly having the right to spout off negativity, gossip, back biting all because of the infection of a viper bite (lies believed).

What do you do when you get bit by a viper?  Education and knowledge will prevent you from doing what you shouldn’t do.  Remember in the movies you would see people cut the wounded bite with a knife and suck out the poison?  Not a good idea.  (Spiritually speaking this would mean we TRY TO PUT THINGS INTO OUR OWN HANDS IN TRUSTING IN SELF INSTEAD OF GOD – doing the opposite of what God wants you to do.)

In the physical they say you should remain calm, wash the bite area, wrap the area to constrict blood flow and  have someone to carry you for treatment.  The less you move is the best.  Spiritually speaking:  the less you move is the best.  Wash the area with the Spirit and Word of God, constrict by not allowing the poison to affect other parts of your soul and allow Jesus to carry you through this difficult time with treatment of Love, forgiveness, mercy and grace. (In other words – wait on God!)

Better yet, do as Paul did.  Shake the snake off into the fire and continue to live, teach, breath, go, preach and walk as Jesus to a world of people who continue to get bit by vipers.  You now have the antidote!  Shake it off and you won’t have to worry about experiencing all these results in the spiritual sense.

As Christians, vipers, poisonous bites from talk or actions from people should have no affect on us.  Words, actions, expectations of others should only cause us to stand in the gap for those who are victims of this biggest trick of the enemy.  Yes I agree it is hard not to fall prey to a viper when they bite in the most unpredictable time and season of your life but I choose to be thankful under this pressure, count it joy while yet passing through this world to get to eternity.  I must remember not to let the venom affect me or those around me.  Lord help us all.

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Romans 3:13 New Living Translation (©2007)
“Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.”

Mark 16: 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16“He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17“These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Acts 28:3-8 3As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand. 4The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, “A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.” 5But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed. 6The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds…..

Behind Closed Doors

It is spring time and there is nothing like opening your door, feeling the breeze and hearing the songbirds chirp.  I love opening my back door and pulling the screen door shut for it reminds me when I was a little girl running in and out of the house during the summer.  Mom would always fuss about the bang of the screen door or about us wanting to go barefoot as soon as the temperature got at least sixty degrees.  Our home was a happy home for the most part.  I know my mother and father had their relationship issues but I never knew about most of them for they rarely fought in front of us children.  As I got older, I remember the certain looks my mother gave me to tell me to shut my mouth and be quiet.  It was usually the time when my father would be drinking or lose his temper over something small.  My father and I didn’t get along during those teen years just like most teenagers trying to find their identity or rebel against authority.  Thank God we grow up and realize how our parents were trying to do the best they knew how when it came to parenting for the most part.

Have you ever drove down a street and wonder what is happening behind those closed doors?  I have seen it happen time and time again.  You look at a family and think how perfect they all seem.  Cute couple, cute kids and very expressive in their love for one another, then the curtain is lifted.  People can look like a typical family, Christian in manner so it seems yet behind closed doors is another story.  This is the so-called average American family.  I remember growing up and having friends whose mother and father looked as though they brought out the best in one another, then when a divorce came everyone was shocked.  You see, they portrayed an image to everyone else to the outside world but inside their home was a mad house.  Behind closed doors is a reality show in which no one wants to be real or exposed and sometimes referred to as “hell on earth”.

I often tell people when they come and visit us, we have no hidden agendas in this house, and yes it is transparent.  No one is perfect and we all have our own issues, battles and faults.  However we live in a time where we must just get gut honest with ourselves in who we really are.  Not a robot, not a perfect human being and not always in the best of behavior.  Life can be a battle and it can get really messed up at times.  It seems when people go through things they believe they are the only one going through difficulties when in fact, this repetitious cycle is going on all around the world.  Sad, but true.

This is not a gloom and doom message but an encouraging one.  Why?  Because there is an answer to hell reality.  It is called, selling out %100 to Jesus to be more like him.  It may not be easy at times but it is better than living in the midst of chaos.  How does one sell out completely?  First we must live a conducive lifestyle of how the Bible teaches us to live and it starts with having love for others instead of being selfish.  It is putting others first, giving time, money and serving to others.  If you are unwilling to come out from behind closed doors with your own opinion of how you think things should be then the chaos remains.

If we all are willing to get honest with ourselves and seek after the one who can give us peace then we truly find the answers to all issues behind closed doors.  Life can be challenging as we encounter painful trials and inevitable disappointments.  But with our faith firmly rooted in Jesus and our identity grounded in the special purpose for which he created us, we can experience a level of joy and peace that the world can never give us.  We must move beyond a poverty mindset, a selfish agenda and discover the soul satisfaction that can only come from living out of our true identities as image bearers of God.  I am glad I opened my door long ago because I don’t want to stay behind closed doors. Put your screen door in and allow others to see who you really are and it will make a difference in all those you are truly trying to touch, including yourself.

Prayer:  Lord I pray we all will be willing to open our door to our heart and allow you to come in and rule our mind, soul and body.  Break down the barricades we put up and expose our true self so that we can change with your direction for your purpose.  You are the way, the truth and life.  Let me walk through that door so my life will be an example for others to follow.  In Jesus name.  Amen

A Test – Which One Are You

Test signThis is not a fun quiz so if you are not into realism, then maybe you shouldn’t ask yourself these questions.  I am particular about which quiz, assessment or self- help test I do because it is when we are truthful that reality smacks you in the face.  When you take this test, be real with your answers, which usually is your first instinct.  Circle the ones best applies to your life right now.

  1. When I hear a person or preacher proclaim truth from the Bible in how I should live, I…..
    1. Somewhat believe, or think the whole church thing is brainwashed people but not enough to change my life.  I don’t always like the way I feel or the way I live and this is just the way I am.  Like it or leave it no one can make me change.
    2. I believe in Jesus and God but I think if you are a good person, God will take you to heaven for being good.
    3. I feel like I am going to heaven because I believe in Jesus, you don’t necessary have to go to church when you can sit home and watch preaching on TV.  God knows your heart.
    4. Get a feeling of positive emotions about what I hear, believe and yes I agree to change, yet after a while I get somewhat bored and return to my old habits and lifestyle.  There is just too much temptation and I fail every time.  It’s not worth the trouble to try to change because I can’t change and when I try to, I just fail every time.  It is not worth the effort when you already know the outcome.
    5. Enjoy the service and the people but don’t really have time to be committed because my life is busy with work, family, friends and activities.  I really don’t have time for church dedication or feel obligated to more time consuming responsibilities.  I love the people and going to church but can’t be dedicated because I have too much going on in my life right now. I am a good person.
    6. God doesn’t care what I believe or if I believe.  I am not sure if there is even a God cause this world is so messed up and my life is sometimes too.  I am not for sure if Jesus can help me.
    7. I will make a decision to change right away, be committed in perusing to learn more and reach out to others to help them also. I strive to learn more and be around people who will help me and not hinder me.  I am supportive and eager to learn, ready to give in all ways.  I accept responsibilities and live to be faithful.
    8. I am too bad of a person to live right or go to church.  I have done too many bad things in my life for God to approve. I am really not for sure if Jesus is right for me.
    9. The church would fall in or lightening would strike me.  I first have to get better and change before I am committed.

Jesus tells us a story about a farmer who through seed out on the ground. He compares it to our lives in how we react when we hear the Bible and the way we should live. Luke 8:11-15

which direction is your life going inIf you chose 1,6,8,or 9 =  Some people are like seeds that were planted along the road. They hear the word, but then the devil comes. He takes the word away from their heart before putting into practice what they have learned and heard, so that they don’t believe and know what it means to be saved and live a life of peace and abundant living.  Because of lack of application of revelation (knowledge or Bible truths) it is never applied to their lives or experienced.  The lack of experience is justified by time separating revelation and application.  They continue to live a life of chaos or heartache instead of choosing the blessings and promises of God even though they believe it could be for them it is never lived out.  They are reluctant to come to church for fear of the unknown, fear of changing or justifying their lifestyle because the see other so called Christians being hypocritical. Even though they are unhappy with their life, they may not know how to receive or live out the ultimate love of Jesus through salvation because the words are not applied to living out what they heard.  If you or someone you know has chosen a, f,h, or i, you are no alone.  Many people have experienced in believing (hear the word and gain knowledge of what to do) but yet never experienced a true relationship with Jesus because of lack of discipleship or encouragement from other Christians. People can have knowledge but never apply that knowledge to their lives, thus hindering a life of blessings and relationship of trusting God for your life.   Although we may use many excuses why we don’t serve or live a Christian life, we all will be judged and face death in the end.  Jesus came so that we not only could be saved from eternal death but that we could know Him in the power of His resurrection.  You must believe He died for all of your sins, all of your failures and loves us for who we are at this very moment.  We don’t have to get good to get God. He wants to bless you and be with you through all of your life.  He takes away bondages, fears, doubts and worries, poverty and sickness.  You can change!  Read the Bible, listen to His voice, talk to Him, repent (change your way of thinking and the way you live) be baptized and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.  He continues to call all and wants to bless you.

If you live for God hard, it is EASY but live for God easy, it is HARD!If you chose 4 = Some people are like seeds on rocky soil. They welcome the word with joy whenever they hear it, but they don’t develop any roots. They believe for a while, but when their faith is tested or temptation comes to slip back into old habits, they abandon it.  Many people struggle with this also.  People want to be a Christian and live out a life of peace however because of lack of self-discipline and changing the environment in which they live, they fall short of their expectations.  This is when old habits still hang around, things don’t seem to change and life is even more of a battle than before.  This can only be solved in keeping faithful and consistent in prayer, study and meeting with believers for encouragement and support along with direction.  It is important to serve God 100% and not just be a lukewarm Christian.  If you change only some things and don’t endeavor to clean out everything that is not of God, it will be even harder to move forward.  If you change your will in the areas of conviction you then will have a better outcome.

I do what I want and when I wantIf you chose 2,3,5 =  The seeds that were planted among thorn bushes are people who hear the word, but as life goes on the worries, riches, and pleasures of life choke them. So they don’t produce fruit or mature living in God.  God has a plan and purpose for every believer.  It is easy to believe and feel as though it is not necessary to be committed with purpose to the cause for the Kingdom.  selfishness and pride of lifeBecause of busy lifestyles other things seem to just get in the way or all to time consuming.  We all should realize this life is only temporary and money, pleasures, sports, vacations, work, sex, drugs, people, business, school, or objects can create the falsehood of living free or living a successful good life. Many people have talents, gifts and purpose in the Kingdom but choose not to enhance their church by giving money, dedication, or faithful attending because it is easier and less time which promotes self instead of God.   Others allow worries and cares of life keep them so bound down to self they cannot see the promises of what God has for them if they serve in the Kingdom.  It is not hard to commit to a local body of believers and fit it in a time schedule when you truly realize it is about others and not about self.  God takes care of His children through all circumstances and rewards those even the more so who are faithful.

live above all of life's fears, live for JesusIf you chose 7 =  Some people do have a good heart and who are honest and true.  These people are those who once hear the word, they apply it to their lives and change right away.  They keep faithfulness and also show fruit of living a Christian lifestyle.  They reach out to others, teach others, encourage others and allow God’s love, mercy and compassion instead of being judgmental.  They enhance the Kingdom of God by giving and serving in the ministries.  They move forward with purpose and use their gifts and talents where needed.  People will look at them and notice a light shining within and know they are the example of Jesus.  The Spirit of God will manifest in ways to draw others into the Kingdom by living out the Word of God not only with revelation or knowledge but by experiencing the power and living it with experience.  This is the best life to lead, so if you chose g, even though things in this life will come against your life, you still have the faith and the relationship in Jesus to overcome and produce fruit of mature living.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, I pray that I will always have your heart and attitude of Your Spirit and produce righteous and holy living and forgive me for being selfish or faults.  Let not time consume me with cares or things that may hinder me.  I will change my life through immediate obedience of your word.  I will strive to enhance your Kingdom by living a lifestyle of love and mercy.  Help those who struggle in all those these issues and I pray they find You and know your love.  In Jesus Name.
