Loving Through Pain

There has been times couples come to us for counseling stating that they no longer love each other because of how they have been hurt, and the hurt has been too great to forgive.  They belive there is no hope or little hope that they can ever love each other again because of the pain of fresh anger.  Their marriage suffers and so does their family and spiritual life.

We must remember that God loves us even when we betray Him on occasion, so we can learn to love as He does even through the pain, bitterness or heartbroken pains.  Love is a choice and sometimes hard but not impossible.  As Christians when we choose to love we reflect the character of God.  It is easy when things are going great but when trust is broken and anger sets in love is not so easy.  We can however show God’s love to our spouse by the way we talk, by our actions regardless of our emotions or what has happened in the past.  We choose to love with God’s love not our own human love because we can’t rely on ourselves to love when we ‘can’t’ or ‘fell out of’. It is all a choice.  This choice takes work, time and patience in which some couple choose not to endure.  With God all things are possible.  With God we can learn to love again with a different kind of love, a forgiving love, a trusting love, a love that never fails.

Regardless of the situations of why or when we choose not to love another person, spouse, family member or friend, love will always remain and will be given to someone or something.  We choose who to give it to, when, how much and how often.  If we choose to love as God loves, it will be much easier but if we try to choose to love with our own efforts we fail as we are all selfish in nature.

Today I encourage you to love with God’s love.  Forgive and grow in love, developing positive emotions, trust and hope for your future with Jesus and remember you can love again only next time around it will be different when you choose to do it with a God love.

GOD’S WORD® Translation (©1995) Deuteronomy 5:10
But I show mercy to thousands of generations of those who love me….New Living Translation (©2007) I Thess. 1:4
We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to love as you love, trust others even when they hurt me and help us to choose to love with your heart not on our own.  In Jesus name.  Amen.
