Have you ever seen the after effects of what nature can do? I can see out my kitchen window the trees in the back yard still do not look the same after last years ice storm. The trees are broken at the top and have an unusual shape. Now since they have lost all their leaves again it is quite noticeable. Isn’t it odd that sometimes we forget the hardships we go through after the fact, yet there will always be reminders.
Several years ago, my husband and I was returning from a trip and happened to come upon a small community in which a tornado had just gone through. It was more than just a storm but it created a mess, not only for the individuals who lost their homes but also for everyone living in the area. The storm had knocked out the power, debris was everywhere which took several months to clean up. I have seen communities come together to help one another in times like these. For some, life changes dramatically. It will never be the same.
Storms of nature can be also related to the storms of life. I have ministered to people before about clearing up the debris. Sometimes we may be walking down a path going the right way when all of a sudden something is thrown in our way. It may block our path or cause us to stumble. When this happens we must not lose the vision but clear out the debris or walk around it being careful not to stray off the path. Then there are times when we are just in one of those moods to be lazy or relaxed, or maybe just not caring. It could be because of hurt, unwilling to forgive, lack of love or rejection. The debris piles higher and may be even thrown at us more which in turn causes walls to build so high we can no longer see our goal because our vision is blocked. It is then we just stop and wait, hoping someone will come and help us find our way out of a mess. It is also a time when we may think or don’t think at all. It is a time we sometimes stray off the path that may seem more enticing yet it only leads to a dead-end.
If we find ourselves on a path that seems blocked, start clearing out the debris. Sometimes we know there may be scars or after effects but we must not lose the vision of the goal. If you see someone else that needs help with their storms of life be willing to help them clean up the mess, for doing it alone is overwhelming. Help them knock down walls and clean up the debris. Together, unity is peace and both of you can pursue the vision.
Prayer: Lord, help me to show your love by helping others. Many times there have been those who you sent my way to help me and I also want to also help others. Let the reflection of your love and kindness be portrayed in what I do for your Kingdom. In Jesus name. Amen.
Psalms 119:35-36 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. New International Version
