|Have you ever met a person who has an opinion about everything? We always call them, “Know it all”. This type of person can become very annoying at times because the can give their opinion about something even when we don’t ask for it. Sometimes the person is just wanting to express their opinion instead of stating the facts. The characteristics that are common in know it alls can include persistent talking and an unwillingness to listen to the opinions of others, and a haughty or overbearing attitude towards those around.
Know it alls are generally people who like to talk and even more so enjoy hearing themselves speak. Because they find their words to always be the gospel on whatever subject they are talking about, they enjoy their words like music from a fine opera. The words generally come in bunches and at a very fast rate. They speak very fast because by doing that, they do not allow anyone to object to their thoughts, to add other thoughts, or to speak at all except with a nod. Everyone of us have our own opinion about any given subject matter, but our opinion doesn’t change God. So many times we think we know much but really we don’t have a clue about things because of our perception of the matter.
For instance, when you see a beautiful mountain in the horizon, you gaze upon its beauty. You go to the base of the mountain and look up. It is beautiful not only in the summer but also in the winter. The people of the town have admired this mountain for years and it has brought in many tourist. It becomes a ski lodge in the winter with the landscape of snow and in the summer it becomes hiking trails with a wonderful view from the look out areas. However, what some have perceived it to be a beautiful mountain may not be aware that it is a volcano. A volcano that is dormant but yet can become powerful at any given time. People have ignored that this mountain could become actually dangerous, either through lack of knowledge or with their own opinion of “it will never explode”.
I have found this to be so true with the way people live their lives. They may wonder around and enjoy the beauty and blessings of God but ignore Him completely. Just like the people of the town, they can have their opinion about the mountain but it doesn’t change the fact that it is a volcano. Everyone can have their own opinion about God and the things of God but it doesn’t change God for who He is. We can never get enough or know enough of God. His character, wisdom and power we have only seen what we want to see in the matter. I think people actually either deceive themselves or entrap themselves in what they choose to know or learn with their own opinion.
I believe what God really enjoys is seeking after Him more and more on a daily basis. Going to church and daily devotions are wonderful and good things to do however tapping into God for who he is we can discover something really powerful that we may have been completely unaware of. We should not allow our opinion of who we think God is to fit our idea of what we want Him to be. A person’s opinion about a volcano not being dangerous does not change the volcano and the volcano will not change its behavior to fit within any one person’s ideas about it.
God is a wonderful God. He is a beautiful God and He is a powerful God! Let us state the facts, express our opinions but continue to be willing to change them as we seek Him with relationship even the more so. What we will discover is a love and power beyond our senses and sight!
Prayer: Lord, I smile as I write this about you this morning, because sometimes I really don’t have a clue of how powerful you really are. I am just enjoying your beauty and blessings in my life. My opinion will not change who you are, it just limits me to know you. Help me to realize that you do not want to be put in a box but seen by all, working and moving through your people. I seek you daily to know more of you. In Jesus name. Amen.
Hebrews 2:3-4…how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
I Corinthians 5:4 When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present.
