What is a secret? It is information not widely known, a mystery, and confidential, private, restricted information or concealed.
I was always told if you want something to be kept a secret then you must not tell anyone. If you tell only one person, then it is no longer a secret. What you once thought would be kept hidden could be too much of a temptation to tell someone else. Six in ten women, the researchers found, choose to break their silence to third parties who have absolutely no connection with the subject, so that the original owners of the secret don’t get to hear that their confidence has been broken. Meanwhile, three in ten admit to having the urge to tell all, while 45 per cent say they disclose secrets just to lift the weight from their shoulders. Two thirds, however, end up feeling guilty for having blabbed. 83 per cent of women consider themselves 100 per cent trustworthy, 40 per cent say they break secrets to people who belong to another friendship group and 40 per cent say their husbands are their ultimate confidants.
A person once said, “Our heart is like safes for keeping secrets. Intelligence is their lock; willpower is their key. No one can break into the safe and steal its valuables if the lock or key are not faulty.” So secrets then must be a heart issue. Your heart proves your actions. The clue in secrets is in if it is good or bad subject matter. If the secret is a past sin, then it must be dealt with in God first. If it is the past and has been repented for, God will no longer judge or hold you accountable for the sin. However sin may also damage third parties or other people involved yet it can also help others who have went through the same situation. Most secrets are exposed even years later after some think they have been buried and long gone but bad actions have a way of resurrecting themselves. The enemy loves to reveal your past or bad secrets. Also there is the reaping-sowing effect in which we all deal with. I just recently found out about a family situation that was two generations ago and a child had a different father. Sometimes we can say, “Nothing surprises me anymore”. People are people and life is life. Secrets are a part of life. Most of the time secrets are revealed. The enemy wants all to believe no one but the person will know, but the truth is, honesty with yourself is that you know and God knows, so it is not a secret.
When counseling, the major issues I get asked quite often deals with keeping a secret from a spouse. My response has questions to follow. First of all, I think everything must be revealed to spouse with no secrets. If it is a secret or past sin in which still causes pain, fear or worries then it must be dealt with. All things need to be dealt with especially if it is causing relationship problems in the present. If it is something that happen years and years ago and has no way of resurfacing or any effect on your life now, let it go if it has been resolved, forgiven and buried. There is no need causing harm or emotional turmoil on the past that is now forgiven.
Now since I have discussed the bad secrets, what about the good secrets? Does God keep secrets from us? God needs not search into any thing for nothing can be hid from Him, however there are things hidden from us. Secrets in God are mysteries, knowledge and wisdom. These secrets can be found. To find these secrets one must pursue in seeking Him. This takes time, effort and will. It again is a heart issue. A person cannot find a treasure if he or she is not willing to dig for it or even read the map. God reveals all by His Spirit and by His word. The righteous is guided not by human principles but by revelation through the Spirit. To a person who is not saved this seems impossible. It is a privilege of Christians to have the mind of Christ revealed to them and experience sanctifying power in their hearts to bring forth the fruit in their lives after finding the secrets of God. Secrets have a way of manifesting and your actions prove to be the secrets found. What secrets has God revealed to you lately?
Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.
I Corinthians 2:10 God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
Prayer: Lord, show me Your ways, Your secrets, let me search diligently for the things in which are hidden to know more of You and Your Kingdom. Let my heart manifest Your love, Your works, Your will and Your heart. In Jesus Name. Amen
We are directed and encouraged, diligently to seek into which God has made known. He has kept back nothing that is profitable for us. Seek Him today and you will find wonderful revelations and treasures once hidden. The secret is out!
