When your toddler takes his first steps, what is the one thing you do to try and get him to come to you? Do you remember how you were their biggest cheerleader? Close your eyes and remember the first time you got on your knees and extended your arms and encouraged your child to walk, You talked baby talk and made all kinds of strange but heart warming sounds, when your child took two little steps you may have clapped and squealed! You stretch forth your hands and bid him to come. Your arms are wide open to catch or to reward with a big loving hug along with a smile of assurance on your face. You also encourage with enticing words such as “Come to mommy” or “You can do it” which brings excitement in the air. The first few steps a child makes is a happy time and you are so proud you want to share it with others.
Have you ever thought about how Jesus holds His hands out for us? Much in the same way, He calls on us daily to walk to Him, to rest in His arms. We get so busy in playing in our playpen we sometimes ignore the bidding. Then througout the day, we here our Father calling again, in turn we say, “Not now, but later”. We should encounter moments throughout the day the arms of the Lord reaching out to us in power and tender love, giving us guidance concerning our lives. His Word is the comfort of encouraging words bidding us and encouraging us for the present situation in our lives.
Isaiah 54:17 55:1-3 No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.”Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.
Likewise, we are to open our arms and bid others to know this love of God. You can be the arms of Jesus for another person to be touched.
Proverbs 31:20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
As you go in your normal routines this week, take a look around you and listen for His voice. He is reaching out to all of us, bidding us to run into his arms and He also bids you to do the same. Stretch forth your arms today.
Prayer: I pray today that I will never turn your bidding away. I pray that your Spirit will continue to live within me to bid others to come to you. Let me continue to reach out with your hands. In Jesus name. Amen
