Without a Shell

turtle and it's shellI recently come upon a picture that sparked some interest.  The picture claimed it was a turtle without a shell.  However upon further research I believe it was a hoax to draw attention to the article.  I couldn’t find any pictures of turtles without shells but I did find a picture of the soft shell turtle.  Turtles cannot live without their shells because it is a part of them.  The shells are actually attached to their ribs.  The inner layer of a turtle’s shell is made up of about 60 bones that include portions of the backbone and the ribs, meaning the turtle cannot crawl out of its shell.  Most tortoises have a large dome-shaped shell that makes it difficult for predators to crush the shell between their jaws. So, it is impossible for a turtle to live without a shell because it is part of the body.  Without a shell, it would be easy  prey for its enemies.

Why am I writing about turtle’s shells?  If you really think about it, the shell for the turtle is like armor.  It is protection and there is no way you can separate it from the body.  We should realize without acknowledging God for direction, protection and guidance is like a turtle without a shell. God is our protection.  The Word of God speaks about this type of armor.

Ephesians 6:11-15  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s plan. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the enemy. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. NIV

armor of God - wear it daily

The different parts of the armor are described. There is none for the back because God has given us our armor to defeat not to turn our back on warfare we face daily.  It is when we give up is when we lose.  Giving up would be to remove the shell or the hand of God from our lives, open for the enemy’s attack even more so.  Our shell in which should be a part of us is truth, righteousness, obedience, faith, and sound mind of faith.  These are all to protect us as weapons of defense.  We stand with one area of offensive weapon and that is the spirit, the sword.  It restrains and crushes evil desires and blasphemous thoughts as they rise within and answers unbelief and error as they assault from without. Scripture and knowing it well along with application will destroy temptation or the enemy’s attack.

You cannot separate the turtle from its shell nor can you separate the Christian Believer from his or her armor, for if you do, the attack of the enemy brings death.

Prayer:  Lord, let me not forget it is you who protects me and it is by your word in which I have authority to use it as a weapon of offence to destroy the works of the enemy.  Help me to realize I need your covering all the days of my life.  I will stand and fight, I will overcome and I will proclaim your word.  In Jesus name. Amen
