Abundant life, Leadership

duh“Duh.”  No one likes to be called stupid or ignorant or to even be recognized as a person who has these attributes.  I remember I forbid my children from calling each other stupid or ignorant Amos.  Does anyone remember the famous Forrest Gump saying, “Stupid is, stupid does”?  How about the saying, “Ignorance breeds ignorance”.  I have seen people use these terms before referring to someone maybe without knowing the true meaning. Forrest’s version of this saying means that stupidity is not just a surface thing derived from a person’s appearance. Stupidity is a matter of deeds, not looks. It means an intelligent person who does stupid things is still stupid. You are what you do.  Like the other versions, it comes down to this, judge people by what they do, not by how they appear. It means that you can tell who is stupid by looking at his actions. It is a modern way to represent what Jesus said, “by their fruits ye shall know them”.

stupid-facesStupid is another way of saying there is no wisdom in how you act, what you do or what you say.  It is in sense, being stupid is to continue repeating actions over and over again knowing it only brings bad consequences.  Stupid can also reflect being unintelligent.  Ignorance is the state in which a person lacks knowledge and is unaware of various issues in general. This should not be confused with being unintelligent, as one’s level of intelligence and level of education or general awareness are not the same. The word ‘ignorant’ is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware, lack of knowledge, or education. Ignorant people don’t know they are ignorant, and that is the main source of their problems.   I will be the first to admit, I have been stupid before and I have been ignorant.  Sometimes I still take the stupid pill and do things I know I shouldn’t, then I beat myself up and deal with the consequences.  God is my helper and source to rid both in my life. So, how does one become not stupid or not an ignorant Amos?  We must seek wisdom.

The Bible warns for us not to be ignorant when it comes to the word of God.  The saying, ignorance breeds ignorance is just another way of saying we direct others into stupid ways. It knows that I will be an example for others in my life to follow my lethargic ways and even then, I don’t even know I am paving the way.  There are no excuses for being stupid or ignorant. We all have some level of intelligence, and some more than others. It is the wise man or woman who admits that no matter how much they think they know or how much education or street smarts they may have, for them to admit to themselves that they still have not learned all that life has to offer and for them to be humble in their ignorance and ever willing to learn, this is the mark of brilliance.  Only a fool will think and say that he knows everything.  In conclusion of this nonsense of a blog, being stupid is repeating sins that one knows he/she shouldn’t and being ignorant is not being aware or having knowledge of the Word to even know the things one may be doing is sin.  Does that make sense?

James 1:5  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Wisdom begins with living according to what God says is right.  However, a person must be willing to throw ignorance and stupidity down the drain and start searching for himself.  It is refusing to be stupid when it comes to making decisions and acting out fleshly desires in which we already know is wrong. As one goes through afflictions, trials or untimely frustrations it is wisdom, which will guide us through trials and keep our spirit right.

Three identifying factors of wisdom are excellence, creativity and integrity.

God wants every human being to ask for wisdom.  Start praying it right now, stop for a moment and ask God to give it to you.

True wisdom is a moral quality, not necessarily a measure of intelligence there are some very intelligent people in the world who do some very unwise things, while conversely there are some people of lesser intellectual ability who have wisdom that is superior to people with supposedly greater intelligence.  So asking for wisdom is not saying, I am stupid or ignorant but I need God’s guidance in everything I do.

A wise person can discern the core of important problems.
A wise person has self-knowledge.
A wise person seems sincere and direct with others.
Others ask wise people for advice.
A wise person’s actions are consistent with his/her ethical beliefs.

Proverbs 9:10  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom

Proverbs 1:7, 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil
Wisdom is an ideal that has been celebrated since antiquity as the knowledge needed to live a good life.  There must be emphasized various combinations of the of knowledge, understanding, experience, discretion and intuitive understanding, along with a capacity to apply these qualities well towards finding solutions to problems.  Having wisdom can give us the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting or having insight, having a wise outlook, plan, or course of action.  It is having good common sense and good judgment. A characteristic of wisdom is not to speak before thinking or acting out before knowing the consequences of the action.

Fools are persons who have no true wisdom, who follow their own devices, without regard to reason, or reverence for God. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be stupid or ignorant.  “Duh”.
