Rain, I love the smell of the summer rain. When I was a child my mother would let us play in the rain, run around in the yard and jump in the mud puddles. I guess that is why I love storms. I find them more fascinating that I do scary. What she etched in my memory was a positive fun time and not a fear of rain, thunder, wind or lightening. Have you ever heard someone say they “hear” the rain coming?” Or they “smell” the rain? We sing a song in church that says, “Open the windows of Heaven and let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.”
Isaiah 45:8 Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, And righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.
Hosea 10:12 Plant the good seeds of righteousness and you will reap a crop of my love; plow the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord that He may come and shower salvation upon you.
We all must realize our responsibility. Salvation did not come without a price. Jesus Christ paid the price for our salvation. Now our responsibility is to live righteous. We must look at the condition of our heart and prepare for the things of God with His Word telling us how we should live. At times my heart was not prepared, it was not fertile or plowed for sowing and there were times I was ready for the rain. We on a personal basis must seek Him now, not later, prepare for the rain. The righteous and gracious acts of God for his people contains so many attributes and rewards as if God rained showers of righteousness out of heaven however the affect only comes to those who have prepared for it. It is like He has opened the heavens to shower down His blessings to all believers. People must cleanse their hearts from all corrupt affections and lusts, and have a broken and contrite spirit. We must abound in faith and also works, and of justice and charity towards one another. We must sow to the Spirit in doing what is right. We must seek Him daily. If we sow in righteousness, we shall reap according to mercy, a reward not of debt, but of grace. There is no satisfaction to a sinner’s heart and our flesh will fail us. The sinner walks around upon dry ground, parched and thirsty for a life of peace and joy, however a believer who has prepared his heart walks around showered by the rain of God daily.
Come and seek the Lord, and hope in him and you will not be left dry and thirsty but will find yourself standing in the rain of righteousness and blessings. Want to come out and play in the rain with me?
