Have you ever wondered what a “stronghold” looks like? If you ever really thought about it, this picture would take on this meaning. The strength in the muscles, the heaviness, the tentacles that expand on this creature penetrates our very way of thinking. He wraps around our thoughts, ideas and poisons us with lies to the point we actually believe. Just like an giant octopus capturing his pray, feeding on the source of our intelligence.
A stronghold is a faulty thinking pattern based on lies and deception. Deception is one of the primary weapons of the devil, because it is the building blocks for a stronghold. What strongholds can do is cause us to think in ways which block us from what God expects or wants from us. Strongholds are birthed and dwell in deception, so naturally the cure is to bring the truth in God’s Word on the scene. You debunk the lies of the enemy, with the truth, which is in the Word of God! Strongholds are proud or high obstacles, that keep people from receiving the truth of scriptures, that keeps people blind to the glory of God in Jesus Christ.
Satan has many weapons to use against us. The first is sin, the second is accusations and entrapment and the third is strongholds. Spiritual strongholds allow Satan to manipulate our minds which brings damage to ourselves and to others. The mind is the gateway to get into your spirit. Strongholds expose a severe inconsistency between what we say and what we believe. Strongholds start out small but as they feed and suck out the truth of the word as if it never was even there.
I had a woman recently who had to meet me because of a indirectly problem she had against me. I do not have any enemies in which I could think of and I couldn’t imagine what in the world I could have done to upset her. Upon arriving to her home which she insisted we drive to for private conversation, greeting her, I truly didn’t remember even seeing her before. She went on to say she was making some changes for the first of the year and there were things upon her mind that she needed to get off her chest and get peace about. Needless to say, I was sitting there with concern, ready to apologize for whatever I had wronged her. I reassured her that in no way was I trying to neglect or had ought against one of her family members. She thought I did. You see, she carried this thought with her for almost a year. This person whom I only had contact in a crowd with, thought in her mind I was coming against one of her family members. Due to the actual event I cannot disclose all the information because of privacy and due to the fact she might read this blog. Again, I try not to do anything to upset others. Why did this take place in this woman’s mind? She had been through much with her family member and many things were manifesting during that time. She was on guard with her emotions. When she thought I had deliberately try to hurt her family member, instead of just calling me and asking about it, it replayed over and over and over in her mind. The creature, the stronghold, the strongman was already weaving his tentacles in her mind working his way into her soul. The stronghold creates a delusion to the point where we will sow discord and the same seed into others who will listen. Your strongman will sow seeds to others with your actions and words to create another creature in the lives of others. So don’t think your strongholds don’t affect others, it does and it will come out. This strongman continue to grow and grow until she believed it to the point where she could not stand it any longer. She was miserable and had to come to the fact she must call me. After our session, she accepted my story and realized it was all in her mind. Of course this was a happy ending because we prayed with her and that particular strongman was bound and cast away.
We must take every thought captive in a way not to continue to replay it over and over in our minds to the point it sets up home there. Unforgiving, bitterness, hate, revenge, and ungodly actions will manifest if we let the creature dwell. We are to think upon these things, whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtue, and praise and if you do the God of peace shall be with you.
II Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations and every high things that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to obedience of Christ.
This creature will war against your soul if you let it. You have the power to capture and destroy it. Don’t let a thought replay over and over in your mind if it tortures you to the point you let other seeds of sin also flourish. Let Christ reign over all thoughts and you will find the peace you are looking for.
