Once a person is dead, he is dead. A dead person does not eat, work, talk or walk. A dead person is cold and has no purpose. A dead person is a stiff corpse with no life. When I was a child and I went to funerals, when I walked up to the casket I always looked to see if I could see the hand move, the chest rise with breath or if their eyes would twitter. I guess I watched too many horror movies. Not to think they actually would, but just wondered how freaked out everyone would be if that happened! Never the less, to my point.
II Corinthians 5:17 When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more, the old man is dead. A new life has begun.
Once we become a Christian, that is to DIE to our old nature man, we began a new walk, we are a new creature in Christ. The old man must die. Die? How can we die and live all at the same time? To die means we must die out to sin. Die out to an old lifestyle that has only brought us poverty, sickness, bondage, depression and all kinds of rotten fruit.
I have seen people who say they are a Christian but not completely sold out to God and continue to live in the former man. Can you imagine with me, taking a dead person everywhere with you. You go to the grocery store, go to church, go to ball games and take a dead person, prop them up beside you and carry on a conversation with them. Anyone ever see the movie “Weekend at Bernies” or a movie about Zombies? You get the jest. However this is what some people continue to do no matter how ridiculous it may sound. When a person is born again, accepts what Jesus Christ did for them, invites Him into their life and start pursuing God is wonderful! Yet, why do some continue to carry the old man? It looks very hypocritical to go to a social gathering stating you are now a part of the body of Christ and dragging a dead body with you. A dead body will stink and soon began to deteriorate to a place where no one wants to be around you.
What to do with a dead body? You bury it. When you bury it don’t let it resurrect or don’t go dig it up! When you bury a body you leave it there. In a place where you know where it is, it once was alive but now only a memory. Your past is just a memory that is all. Only you can put your dead man to rest. Only you can bury your dead man.
Romans 6:12-14 Do not let sin control your body any longer and do not give in to its sinful desires. Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God every part of you for you are old man is dead and you want to be tools in the hands of God to be used for his good purposes. Sin is no longer your master.
The next time you find yourself repeating things you know is from your former life, look around you and see if you have your dead man sitting beside you. Don’t you think it is time to bury that stinky life? Life is more pleasant without a dead man walking or an attack from the Zombies!
