Love and Life of a Testimony

We Stand Blessed!

 Deuteronomy 28Bible

If you fully obey all of these commandments of the Lord your God, the laws I am declaring to you today, God will transform you into the greatest nation in the world.  These are the blessings that will come upon you.  Blessings in the city, Blessings in the field, Many children, Ample crops, large flocks and herds, Blessings of fruit and bread; Blessings when you come in and Blessings when you go out.  The Lord will defeat your enemies before you; they will march out together against you but scatter before you in seven directions!  The Lord will bless you with good crops and healthy cattle, and prosper everything you do when you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you.  He will change you into a holy people dedicated to himself; this he has promised to do if you will only obey him and walk in his ways.  All the nations in the world shall see that you belong to the Lord and they will stand in awe.  The Lord will give you an abundance of good things in the land, just as he promised; many children, many cattle and abundant crops.  He will open to you his wonderful treasury of rain in the heavens to give you fine crops every season.  He will bless everything you do and you shall lend to many nations, but shall not borrow from them.  If you will only listen and obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, he will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall always haver the upper hand.  Each of these blessing depends on your not turning aside in any way from the laws I have given you and you must never worship other gods.

When Jeff and I gave our lives to Jesus in 1987 we were rejected by everyone we thought were our friends.  Imagine that?  The old lifestyle was on the way out the door and we had walked through the door of the unknown.  The church we attended was not a traditional church.  It was exciting, loud and fire preaching, it was far from boring and quite comical at times.  What I mean is, the things we witnessed was far from usual.   This was so different as what we had known in our past history, we both grew up methodist.  I had experienced the infilling of the Holy Spirit when my family attended a Pentecostal Church when I was thirteen.  I don’t count it odd now, just surprising 33 years later, God has recently given us that very church!  Although Jeff is the overseer Apostle, we have a young fine pastor reaching out to that part of the community.

Our lives were in turmoil the first years of marriage.  We married at age 18-19 and yes we were High School sweethearts.  A year after we had been married, we had Lyle.  The next two years after his birth was a lifestyle whirlwind.  In fact, church was our last resort to finding peace and happiness.  I didn’t believe in divorce so I kept telling myself that God put us together for a reason.  I started attending churches and tried to live right.  Walking on the fence for a year and living two different lifestyles I would not recommend to anyone.  When you try to live like that without being fully given to one way, your life is total hell.  Your mind is confused and you constantly fight spiritual battles.  I prayed for a Christian husband because I really truly believed if I had to divorce Jeff, God was going to give me a new man.  Boy did God answer my prayers!

That January of 1987, in a youth rally, in the basement of Evangel Tabernacle, we both repented and gave our lives totally over to God.  (This very church, now called PromiseLand,  God gave to us to pastor ten years later) We never turned back.  Within a few months we both were baptized and filled with His Spirit.  During this time, we had lost almost everything we had gained in this world.  Our house, his job, our credit and little food we had to depend on God to supply.  We no longer lived the lifestyle of sin but trusted on God’s Word to supply our need.  Our new family of God brought us food, money and love.  Our families stood by us and supported our new lifestyle change.  So you see, Deuteronomy means a lot to us.  We started reading the Word and said aloud, “God your Word says…..and we will obey”.  God’s promises are true and He will never fail you.  Live it, breath it and obey it!  You will find if you surrender to what Jesus is calling you to do, blessings you cannot fathom!  Until next time…..
